As the London events scene becomes increasingly ambitious and inventive, venues are having to adapt. What was traditionally expected of a venue is changing - your ideas are becoming more creative, more unexpected, and - quite rightly - more demanding.

Some venues can't cope with this. But there are some that can - some that are so versatile that they're freeing up the imaginations of the most inspired event planners. You've just got to see the potential.

Here are five of the best.

1. Carousel

Bond Street

Carousel is founded on the principle of flexibility - the name comes from the fact that the restaurant plays host to a constantly changing carousel of new chefs that take over for periods from a few days to a few weeks.

But this isn't just a restaurant - it's three floors of blank canvas space, with a stark and minimalist design. By leaving their space relatively untouched with any strong-statement design, you're free to make your own stamp. The results so far have been beautiful.

Product launches, weddings, meetings, presentations - or some new-fangled combination - can flourish here. Take a look.

2. Rich Mix

Shoreditch High Street

Rich Mix is a proud supporter of radical and forward-thinking ideas. They're a charity that's dedicated to diversifying culture and access to the arts. Everything about their ethos is focused on new ideas and combinations.

And so are their event spaces. The spark of creativity is alight in each of their spaces, which are all stripped-down and ready for any kind of event you can think up. By having a hands-off approach, and freeing up their spaces to be transformed by events planners, it's perfectly suited to being taken over.

4. Hoxton Basement

Canvases don't come much blanker than this. Club nights, art installations, interactive theatre, fashion shows - there's nothing this blank basement can't host.

In a prime position just off Shoreditch High Street, this venue is beautifully awash with white plaster, with the unexpected touch of a grand oak sliding door. You can take over this venue, re-imagine the space, and fill it with your ideas - your product launch, your party, your event.

[5. Swan Wharf]

Hackney Wick

Swan Wharf is made up of five incredible events spaces - courtyards, bars, and even a whole warehouse. In the intriguing and beautiful setting of Hackney Wick, this industrial venue is on-trend and unlimited in its potential.

The venue also hugs the canal, providing expansive and unusual outdoor views, easily viewable from the venue's wide open windows. It's a stark skeleton that can be dressed by your event design, and taken over by your event's identity.
